How the Media Should Cover Donald Trump and His Team's Lies

Keith Olbermann
Keith Olbermann is essentially invites the press to do its most basic job.
What if the media stopped treating the blatant and embarrassing lies spewing from Trump and his team like valid arguments that deserve respectful air time? Keith Olbermann’s lays out a plan for how they could easily do so: “Stop covering his speeches live. Use a delay. Employ a team of fact checkers. Play his rants. Each time he lies, stop the tape, state the facts.”

In addition, Olbermann calls for an effective media boycott of “Kellyanne ‘Con-Job’” and Trump’s propaganda machine. Olbermann also asks the press to do its most basic job: “In a time when democracy is being rapidly sabotaged by a lunatic president and his amoral flying monkeys like Conway and Spicer - your market and, incidentally, your obligation as citizens in that bleeding democracy - are identical: to identify the lies and refute them twice as often as they are told.”

Olbermann is essentially inviting the press to do its primary job: check facts, and stop treating outright lies as if they’re in any way legitimate.

Olbermann's Plan of Action

1 - Call him whatever you whatever you want but do use his name.
2 - Remember: this is a regime and he's not acting alone.
3 - Do not argue with those who support him. It does not work.
4 - Focus on his policies and not his orange hair and/or his mental state.
5 - Keep your message positive; they want the country to be angry and fearful because this is the soil from which their darkest policies will grow.
6 - No more helpless/hopeless talk.
7 - Support science, artists and the arts.
8 - Be careful not to spread fake news.
9 - Donate to organizations with a history of effectively fighting for our rights.
10 - Buy from and support corporations that reject his policies. Let the others know clearly why you are rejecting them.
(Among the corporations that supported Trump are: Amazon, Hoppy Lobby, Yuengling Beer, Home Depot, Facebook, Pay Pal, Uber, Miller Beer, Coors Beer, Elder Beerman (clothing), Seers, Overstock.com, Zappos, Bloomingdales, TJMax, Nordstrum, L.L. Bean, Lord and Taylor, Bed Bath and Beyond, Burlington Coat Factory, Kushner Properties, Trident, QVC, Nascar)

11 - Take care of yourselves.
12 - Resist!
