The Liar-in-Chief and the Missile Attack in Syria

On the 77th day of his presidency, the Liar in Chief used 59 Tomahawk missiles to open up a new war front. Before doing so, he told the Russian that he was ordering the strike and the Russians at the base lift.
The strike against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's air force was different from any action the U.S. has taken in Syria since the outbreak of civil war there six years ago. It was the first direct strike against Assad's government. Early Friday morning in Syria, missiles crashed into the airfield that American officials say Assad used to launch a chemical weapon attack that killed dozens, including children, earlier this week. Six people reportedly died in the strikes. Nine civilians, including four children, were also reportedly killed. "Beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack," Trump said in a statement after the strike. "Years of previous attempts at changing Assad's behavior have all failed, and failed very dramatically."
The speed with which Trump ordered this attack is notable. The world reacted in horror on Tuesday as pictures emerged of Syrian parents holding bodies of children who had been gassed. By Wednesday, Trump was suggesting he would be the defender of those victims and saying his view on Assad had changed. The next day, the President took decisive action without notifying Congress or seeking its approval which legally he had to do.
"I think it does demonstrate that President Trump is willing to act when governments .... cross the line in the most heinous of ways," Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters Thursday night. National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster said Trump was informed immediately of the chemical attack. From that moment, McMaster said, the president was engaged in developing options to respond to Assad.
However, when Trump ordered a missile attack on the Syrian government's al-Shayrat airbase near Homs on Thursday evening, he took a rapid about-face on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to a military conclusion in the wake of a chemical attack which killed scores and left hundreds injured. But Trump has repeatedly spoken out against attacking the Syrian government, suggesting U.S. involvement in the conflict could make a bad problem worse and possibly lead to a global war.

In October, Trump blasted the then Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's position on Syria  that the U.S. military should take out al-Assad's airfields, the exact type of strike Trump ordered Thursday  by saying attacking a Russian-backed government could start World War III. "What we should do is focus on ISIS," Trump told Reuters. "We should not be focusing on Syria. You're going to end up in World War III over Syria if we listen to Hillary Clinton. "You're not fighting Syria any more, you're fighting Syria, Russia and Iran, all right? Russia is a nuclear country, but a country where the nukes work as opposed to other countries that talk."

In 2015, Trump blasted his GOP rivals with near-identical rhetoric: "They want to start World War III over Syria. Give me a break. You know Russia wants to get ISIS right. We want to get ISIS. Russia's in Syria. Maybe we should let them do it. Let them do it," he added. "What the hell are we, crazy? Apparently the answer is "yes".

Here's a sampling of Trump's tweets about Syria:

"Obama wants to unilaterally put a no-fly zone in Syria to protect Al Qaeda Islamists. Syria is NOT our problem.

We should stay the hell out of Syria, the "rebels" are just as bad as the current regime. WHAT WILL WE GET FOR OUR LIVES AND $ BILLIONS? ZERO

Let the Arab League take care of Syria. Why are these rich Arab countries not paying us for the tremendous cost of such an attack?

What will we get for bombing Syria besides more debt and a possible long term conflict? Obama needs Congressional approval.

Is everyone seeing how incompetently our country is being run by watching the mess with Syria? Our leaders don't know what they are doing!

If Obama attacks Syria and innocent civilians are hurt and killed, he and the U.S. will look very bad!

Agreed, we need our troops on the streets of Chicago, not in Syria.

President Obama's weakness and indecision may have saved us from doing a horrible and very costly (in more ways than money) attack on Syria!

The Arab League stated that it wants nothing to do with an attack on Syria, but they want us to attack..Are our leaders insane or just stupid?

We have given Syria so much time and information-there has never been such an instance in wartime history. Syria is now fully prepared!

If the U.S. attacks Syria and hits the wrong targets, killing civilians, there will be worldwide hell to pay. Stay away and fix broken U.S.

Think of it, the Arab League doesn't want to get involved with Syria - but they want us to do their dirty work. How stupid!

What I am saying is stay out of Syria.

Many Syrian ‘rebels’ are radical Jihadis. Not our friends & supporting them doesn't serve our national interest. Stay out of Syria!

While everyone is waiting and prepared for us to attack Syria, maybe we should knock the hell out of Iran and their nuclear capabilities?

All former Bush administration officials should have zero standing on Syria. Iraq was a waste of blood & treasure.

We should not attack Syria but if they make the stupid move to do so, the Arab League, whose members are laughing at us, should pay!

Syria has been given so much time that much of the things we were going to bomb have been moved into civilian areas! A polititian's war.

We should stop talking, stay out of Syria and other countries that hate us, rebuild our own country and make it strong and great again-USA!

Russia is sending a fleet of ships to the Mediterranean. Obama’s war in Syria has the potential to widen into a worldwide conflict.
